Frequently Asked Questions

Buying a website unit

What exactly is a "website unit"?

A website unit is a complete, ready-to-run website built for a specific type of business — for example an estate agency, a sports club, or a salon booking system. It includes the full source code, a database schema (schema.sql), and an installer script, so it's a working system from the moment it's set up, not just a visual template.

What's included in the download?

A zip file containing the complete fileset (every PHP, CSS, JS and asset file the site needs), a schema.sql file to create the database, and an installer script that walks you through configuration on your own server.

Do I need coding skills to install it myself?

No coding is required, but you should be comfortable with basic cPanel/FTP tasks — uploading files, creating a MySQL database, and running a setup wizard in your browser. If that's not something you want to do yourself, choose the Install Service instead and we'll do it for you.

What's the difference between self-install and the Install Service?

Self-install means you download the zip and schema.sql and set everything up yourself using the included installer — you're in full control and it's the cheaper option. The Install Service means you send us your hosting/cPanel details and we install, configure, and test the site for you on your server.

Hosting & technical requirements

What server or hosting do I need?

Any standard PHP/MySQL hosting works — cPanel shared hosting, a VPS, or a dedicated server. As a general guide you'll want PHP 8.1 or newer, MySQL/MariaDB, and the usual PHP extensions (PDO, mbstring, JSON, session, OpenSSL). Each website unit's documentation lists its exact requirements, and the installer checks your server automatically before letting you proceed.

Will it work on hosts other than cPanel — Fasthosts, 123-reg, a VPS?

Yes. Our website units are built to standard PHP/MySQL conventions rather than anything cPanel-specific, so they'll run on any host that meets the PHP version and extension requirements. cPanel just makes the file upload and database creation steps a little more visual — the installer itself works the same way everywhere.

Can I customise the design or add features after buying?

Yes — once purchased, the source code is yours to modify for that installation. It's a standard PHP/MySQL codebase, so any competent developer (or you, if you're comfortable with code) can extend it.

Payment, refunds & support

What payment methods do you accept?

Payments are processed securely through PayPal, which also supports payment by debit/credit card without needing a PayPal account.

Do you offer refunds?

Because website units are digital products delivered instantly on download, we're not able to offer refunds once the fileset has been downloaded — see our Terms & Conditions for the full policy. If something is broken or not as described, contact us first and we'll put it right.

Is there a licence restricting how I can use it?

Each website unit is licensed for use on a single live installation per purchase. You may not resell, redistribute, or repackage the source code itself as a competing product. Full terms are in our Terms & Conditions.

How do I get support after purchase?

Contact us with your order number and we'll help. Installation questions are covered as standard; ongoing custom development is available separately on request.

Do you build bespoke or custom website units?

We're always adding new ready-built website units to the shop. If you have a specific idea in mind, get in touch — we're happy to hear suggestions and discuss custom work.
